Cassie Tobin has been an integral part of Rung for over three years. Although her role has changed during her tenure, her drive and passion to empower women and help them excel have always remained at the forefront of everything she does.
As our current Learning & Instructional Design Manager, she is in charge of designing and executing learning experiences for members to prepare them with the technical and professional skills to be successful in their new careers (Skills Training and Professional Power Skills). In this month’s Rung Staff Spotlight, she’s sharing some insight about her experience at Rung and how her confidence has grown, allowing her to soar to new heights.
What do you like most about working at Rung?
Far and away, it’s the people. I am grateful to be surrounded by colleagues who are not only phenomenal at what they do but also incredibly passionate. You can tell that we each have been drawn to Rung for something deeper than a paycheck. There is so much community at Rung, and even in the tough times, you can always find some light and laughter.
What has been your favorite project to work on?
For me, it has been building out and refining study group support for members completing online technical training. Study groups adapted from a specific need we saw when members—like many of us—found it challenging to persist through a completely online and independent training program.
Since then, study groups have become intentional spaces that leverage Rung volunteers with industry experience to facilitate Q&As and skill-building practice activities. It has been so rewarding to witness the impact of these sessions—members deepen their understanding of essential concepts/frameworks, gain confidence in themselves and their skills, and expand their professional networks. All of these prepare members to enter their job search with confidence and a growth mindset!
Who are your personal sheroes, women you look up to?
My mentor was my supervisor in a previous role. I admire her for how she is true to and confident in herself. I see it in the way she moves with kindness and humility. She also has an incredible skill for coaching others and fostering growth opportunities. Knowing the impact this has had on my personal and professional growth, I aim to emulate these experiences for others – especially in my work here at Rung.
What do you like to do in your free time?
When I am not at Rung, you can find me thrifting or antiquing, watching scary movies, making arts and crafts, or reading a book—likely with a cup of coffee (or two) nearby.
How have you grown since working at Rung?
Since working at Rung, I have grown to be confident of my value and aware of areas I can grow, but I no longer hold myself back.
I used to be someone who preferred to sneak under the radar, and sometimes, this meant I wouldn’t put myself out there for opportunities simply because I didn’t check all the boxes. Here at Rung, there is a plethora of opportunities to step out of one’s comfort zone and learn something new, which was nerve-wracking for me at first. However, perfect is not the goal – and never should be. It’s about learning to be enough. Focusing on being enough rather than perfection has given me more space to make mistakes so I can reflect and learn from them – which already makes me better compared to where I started.
As you can see, Cassie has been an extraordinary attention to our Rung family, and we look forward to her to continued growth within our organization. This is only the beginning.
