Brittany Moses, a member of our Spring 2023 Cohort, has received support and guidance through her Rung journey. She is now poised to move towards a career in technology in User Experience (UX) Design and credits Rung and Alnita Smiley, Rung’s Financial Education Manager, for affirming her goals and helping her see the big picture.

On her experience with Rung’s program:

I feel that I can definitely get through challenges a lot easier because I have the skills that I can transfer into future endeavors. My experience– it’s really empowering.

This is something new. We all have to learn something new and start somewhere fresh. So, it’s been really great to help me with my transition.

On Financial Education with Alnita:

Alnita is an outstanding financial advisor. She’s given me so much insight, helped me learn so much about a lot of the things that I know, affirmed a lot of things that I know I’ve been doing well, and given me a lot of tips, helpful information, and resources to propel me forward. She’s a joy. She’s straightforward. She’s going to let you know what it is, and I appreciate that.

Other organizations have such an agenda of what needs to happen that they don’t listen to you, but Alnita listens to you. She is impactful and empathetic to whatever situation you’re going through and helps you see it through.

What are some financial areas that Alnita has helped you with?:

Helping me tackle some of my student loan debt. That’s been the biggest thing, just getting the understanding of how I can better use the system to help me, you know, pay down that debt, find ways that I can use the resources to be able to pay attention to what’s going on there because it’s been all over the place.

On receiving a Trio Grant, $1,000 to help her towards her financial goals:

I used the Trio Grant to pay my credit card debt and made huge strides. I’ve been able to cut down my credit card debt in half and continue to work towards getting that down. When she mentioned that to me.

On where she’ll be five years from now:

In the next five years, I will be a leader for a while. It’s always been in the back of my mind. Like, could I lead? Could I be someone that can, you know, help people see the big picture?

I’ve always been a big-picture girl, and I feel that now I have the tools to implement that wherever I go. I’ve actually been able to use that in my everyday life, working with the nonprofit that I’ve been working with for the last year, working with some of my passions in the community.
