Barbara joined our Fall 2023 Cohort and quickly began considering training in the advanced manufacturing career pathway. After being introduced to this career as a viable solution to help her earn more and utilize her transferable skills, Barbara began her journey toward a new future.

In February, after participating in an Employer Mock Interview session with several advanced manufacturing employers, she went through the interview process and was hired by Companion Baking. Barbara is sharing her story of how her experience at Rung has changed her life.

How would you describe your experience at Rung?

The experience was insightful. I felt a belonging by knowing that other women were there for the same reasons, and I didn’t feel alone. It also taught me self-awareness.

What was it about advanced manufacturing that interested you?

What interested me about advanced manufacturing was working with my hands, building, creating, etc. I have previous experience in advanced manufacturing and want to return to the field.

Since being a “Companion,” what have been your biggest takeaways?

Be kind to yourself and learn from your mistakes. You learn and grow from these things.

What do you like most about your job?

I’m constantly busy, which makes the day go by so fast. You are moved to different areas of the factory and cross-trained, which is fun!

Where do you see yourself this time next year?

I’m not really sure, but I’d love to have more experience in operating the bun line and the dividing line machinery.

Barbara is an example of a woman thriving in advanced manufacturing, and we are proud to have her as a member of Rung.
