When LaunchCode transformed CoderGirl from a growing meetup into a structured, large-scale training-to-job program in 2017, their vision was clear – a world where all women have the opportunity to enter the tech industry without barriers. Since then, around 2,000 women have been educated through the CoderGirl program and gained the tools necessary to break into the high-demand and high-paying technology industry.
Only about 26% of computing jobs are held by women and just 3% held by Black women
Although only about 26% of computing jobs are held by women and just 3% held by Black women, a typical CoderGirl cohort is a myriad of women of all ages, of various backgrounds and ethnicities and representing all corners of St. Louis. They have a wide range of life experiences – teachers, musicians, stay-at-home mothers, nurses, food service workers – but as the weeks go on, they form a connection over a common dream.
LaunchCode’s mission is rooted in accessibility and providing equal opportunity to individuals who are willing to put in the work
Rung for Women brought in LaunchCode as a co-designer because we too share in the vision of ensuring that women have direct pathways to family-sustaining, high-demand careers. LaunchCode’s mission is rooted in accessibility and providing equal opportunity to individuals who are willing to put in the work. To achieve this, all of LaunchCode’s programs are completely free to the learner – eliminating the enormous barrier of tuition costs and student loan debt. As Rung ramps up to achieve our mission of empowering women to grow and achieve sustained independence, this partnership with CoderGirl seemed like the perfect fit.
To launch this partnership, Rung will host LaunchCode’s Summer 2020 CoderGirl cohort
To launch this partnership, Rung will host LaunchCode’s Summer 2020 CoderGirl cohort. Not only will future CoderGirls have the door to a tech career opened wide for them by LaunchCode, but Rung has also committed resources to ensure the women are set up for success. CoderGirls will have the chance to take advantage of a variety of Rung’s programs including health and wellness classes, financial education classes, networking opportunities and more.
By partnering with LaunchCode’s CoderGirl program, Rung will not only change individual lives and families, but beyond that, create a ripple effect of strong, self-sustaining, empowered females to lead our community into the digital future.
