If you’re curious about what goes into applying for Rung for Women’s membership program, you’ve come to the right blog post! In this post, we’ll help you explore ways to get ready for applying to our program, from preparing for the commitment that comes with membership to identifying your values.
Let’s dive into how we can help take you from “I just want something different” to “I have a fully formed career goal in mind and know the steps that I need to take to get there!”
What It Takes
Two of the most important things to consider when applying to Rung’s membership cohorts are the time and energy commitments that come into play. Members are expected to spend approximately 10 hours per week invested in Rung’s programming. This includes workshops on-campus, online learning courses, and more. This is why Rung offers a variety of wellness support options to the women it serves, such as childcare during on-site visits, meals, mental health support, and more.
We invite members to be mindful of the amount of work you’ll put in to achieve desired results from the program. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow in significant ways during the program, including the following:
- Receiving feedback
- Practicing new skills in front of audiences
- Sharing reflections with peers and coaches
- Trying new and hard things
This all requires a deep commitment to personal growth and evolution, and a willingness to be vulnerable in a public setting. Our career coaches are here to support you in your journey, but you must also put in the work to achieve your goals. Next, let’s talk about some journal prompts that can help set you up for success.
Journaling as a Preparation Practice
To help you feel #RungReady during your application process, we’ve included several journal prompts below. Use these prompts to help prepare you for answering questions that may feel challenging during the application and interview phases.
- Identify what you don’t want.
- Think about previous jobs or roles that you’ve had. What about those roles felt difficult or not a good fit for you?
- Get clear on your values.
- Identify values that you align with that impact both your personal and professional lives. How do they support you in the workplace? Here are some examples:
- Gratitude
- Openness
- Accountability
- Achievement
- Compassion
- Persistence
- Innovation
- Work Ethic
- Identify values that you align with that impact both your personal and professional lives. How do they support you in the workplace? Here are some examples:
- Explore what might be holding you back.
- Imposter Syndrome: which refers to the feelings that are associated with “responding to messages from society that women did not belong in powerful or lofty positions.”
- Limiting Bias/Beliefs: deeply ingrained thoughts or convictions that restrict a person’s potential by creating self-imposed barriers.
- Scarcity Mindset: this describes what happens when individuals focus heavily on their lack of resources.
- What do I already have?
- Focus on building a list of what skills, resources, and support you already have in your personal and professional lives. Try to break out of the scarcity mindset that may feel like you are lacking in some areas—this is a chance to celebrate yourself!
- Get clear on next steps.
- Doing some research on what interests you is a great next step. What skill tracks at Rung interest you the most?
Getting #RungReady may feel like it includes some unanticipated extra steps, but these suggestions are all to set you up for the most success possible during the application phase and beyond.
